A New Sugar Mill Drive Coupling

When the author left the sugar industry in 1986, he requested and wasgranted permission by Tongaat-Hulett Sugar to commercially exploit the design of the coupling. A milldrive coupling was designed along the same lines as the original Amatikulu couplings, but pricing the various components indicated that the coupling would be too expensive to sell. Thoughts about ways to reduce costs by eliminating the expensive pins and bearings from the design led to a totally new design, using steel ropes as tension members between driving and driven yokes.
